The results of this pilot were extreemely positive:
'Kamayoqs' was created during a pilot initiative with potato and alpaca Kamayoqs, in the high Andes of Peru, exploring the potential of Participatory Video for pro-poor market development and farmer-to farmer technology transfer.
It was produced as part of a long-term action-research programme using Participatory Video as a powerful tool to improve collaboration and technology exchange amongst small-scale producers, amplifing their voices during their interactions with policy-makers and other market actors. Practical Action commissioned InsightShare to train the project and communications staff of one of their local programmes in Peru to enable Participatory Video to be integrated into their work with Andean farmers. The idea was to develop Participatory Video as a tool to help them increase their influence with decision- makers, share technologies and innovations, and access market systems through promoting dialogue and communication amongst disparate and distant actors.
Videos made by indigenous Quechua farmers have been used at meetings with various local market actors such as investors, restaurant owners and others working in tourism, and government officials. Paulina Molina, the local trainer reports that all the films were shown on local TV and presented by the Kamayoq trainees.
