InsightShare is a small, but fast-growing social enterprise, that uses participatory video to facilitate a powerful participatory process to bring people together, help them overcome barriers and take collective action. We have a small core team and engage interns from time to time to support and develop our work in roles that can add considerable value to our core work. We are currently looking for someone who wants to contribute to the development of the InsightShare Network and our new website. You should be flexible and able to adapt to a fast changing work environment, working with and supporting different people within our team.

Role Description

Focus Points:

  1. Assist with the implementation of the InsightShare Network (a new not for profit entity set up by InsightShare Ltd). The InsightShare Network will be launched this year with the aim to establish and support grassroots participatory video hubs, facilitators  and community film-makers.

  2. Assist with social media to promote the new network

  3. Help to develop and re-structure the InsightShare website. Update and create new content.

  4. Event organisation and support. E.G. In May 2016 InsightShare will be attending the RAI Anthropology, Weather and Climate Change conference and use this to launch our network:

  5. Play a role in dissemination of learning from the InsightShare Associates gathering that will take place on the 26th May.

  6. The intern will also assist with general office administration, communication and project support.

General:  Alongside the tasks listed above the intern will also participate positively in any appraisal meetings or trainings to help you undertake the role effectively, attend regular meetings and retreats as identified as necessary and be administratively self-servicing and willing to share routine office tasks when in the office.

The intern will be managed by Claire Hill-Dixon as well as being supported and guided by other members of the team.


Essential skills:

  • Have a passion for internal and external communications

  • Have experience in event organisation or support

  • Have a good grasp of word, excel and powerpoint to be able to prepare high quality written reports

  • Have a good knowledge of social media platforms

  • Have excellent writing skills

  • Have experience carrying out desk-based research

  • Have excellent administrative skills

  • Have an excellent command of the English language

Desirable skills:

  • Have experience with editing software i.e IMovie

  • Be able to communicate in another language

  • Have experience with the participatory video process

  • Confident using Google platforms e.g Gmail

General information

Timescale: May/June 2016 – September/October 2016.  3 days a week, minimum 4 months. Alternative timescales can be discussed so please do get in touch if you would like begin the internship at a later date.

Expenses: This is an unpaid internship. InsightShare will reimburse out of pocket expenses on production of receipts for pre-agreed travel and subsistence. Insightshare will reimburse up to £5.00 for lunch each day and travel expenses within Oxford.

Location: InsightShare Head Office, The Old Music Hall, Oxford, OX4 1JE. Work from home is also permitted on one/two days per week.

Travel: No international travel expected. Occasional travel to London or to conferences possible. All appropriate expenses to be covered by InsightShare.
