Find Your Voice - Youth & Democracy

During this participatory video project, a group of young people from Oxfordshire explored what it means to them to live in a democratic country and what young people can do to act for change. After they had learned how to plan and shoot a video, they asked themselves and other youth on the streets of Oxford: if you were a change maker, what would you change in our society?

Peacebuilding, Education and Advocacy Programme in Uganda

A 3-stage capacity building programme for young people in Karamoja, Northern Uganda. UNICEF's communication for development and peace building programme was designed to address conflict drivers through community drama and radio and journalism. Through one 11-day and one 7- day workshop, fourteen programme beneficiaries were trained to facilitate a participatory video and most significant change process in three communities in the region.

Cote D’Ivoire experienced a decade of civil war and political crises between 2002 and 2007. Following democratic elections in 2010, the capital erupted once more into ethnically motivated violence and the politicization of children and youth, both as victims and perpetrators of divisions and violence. There are to date few nonpartisan safe spaces for youth to engage in reflection about the past conflict and in constructive dialogue about their role and responsibilities in shaping Cote d’Ivoire’s future. See all the testimonies in full here.

Clubs Messagers de Paix

Cote D’Ivoire experienced a decade of civil war and political crisis between 2002 and 2011. Harmful political influence has infiltrated secondary schools through politicalized and violent students and teachers syndicates and gangs, making them increasingly dangerous environments for students and staff. To address this issue, the Ministry of Education introduced The Peace Clubs, at the end of the crisis in 2011 to promote peace in schools. They are a students led mechanism for conflict prevention and resolution.

My Rights, My Voice Nepal - Our Right to Health Care

As part of the My Rights, My Voice (MRMV) programme, 12 youth campaigners from the Nepal project took part in a Participatory Video workshop in January 2014. This video shows extracts from the three films which they made on community health care issues as part of their ongoing advocacy work for MRMV. The youth campaigners will screen their films to local decision-makers and community members during 2014 to bring about change on the issues raised.

A Short Documentary on PVMSC

A short film by InsightShare which includes footage from the PVMSC initiative as well as specially shot interviews of the facilitators who were involved. This video offers a summary of the PVMSC process and explains the unique value of this technique which amplifies the voices of beneficiaries to capture the human stories behind development projects.

Participatory Video Evaluation for Mercy Corps in Kenya

Mercy Corps' Financial Literacy training has been running for the last 2 years in Rift Valley province. The program was put in place to provide saving, borrowing, spending and investment skills to the funded and randomly selected youth groups within the Local Empowerment for Peace program (LEAP). Mercy Corps invited us to facilitate a participatory video evaluation with program participants in May / June 2013.


The strengths and challenges of Participatory Video for M&E in gender-based violence programmes

This is a presentation on some of the key methodological learning, strengths and challenges of using Participatory Video in gender-based violence programming and to support adolescent girls and women evaluate programming in which they are key actors.
