Maja studied Filmmaking at San Francisco State University complementing her horizon with Visual Anthropology. After graduation, in 2001-2002 she worked with the NGO CBIK (Center for Biodiversity and Indigenous Knowledge) in Kunming, China creating its audiovisual department.
In the past 7 years, Maja has supported an indigenous videomaker network as part of the Andean Cultural Affirmation process of the Peruvian NGO, PRATEC (Andean Project for Peasant Technologies). Since 2008 she joined InsightShare as an associate trainer feeling identified with the philosophy of producing videos in a participatory way. Her focus on indigenous themes highlights the particular relation between humans and nature aesthetically elaborated in more than 40 videos; several of them were awarded in international festivals.
One of Maja’s talents is the ability to translate visually the Cosmovisions of the people from oral cultures into audiovisuals so that their cultural sensitivity is acknowledged with respect and dignity. Maja speaks Spanish, German, English.
